Role Overview 

Our accountancy firm is seeking a detail-oriented and client-focused Senior Accountant to join our growing team. The successful candidate will manage a diverse portfolio of clients, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with Maltese VAT and tax regulations, and adherence to IFRS and GAPSME accounting standards. This role is ideal for a fully qualified accountant with at least 3 years post-qualification experience in an accountancy firm environment, who combines strong technical expertise with excellent organisational and client relationship skills. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Act as the main point of contact for a portfolio of clients, providing accounting and advisory services. 

  • Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with IFRS and GAPSME standards. 

  • Prepare management accounts, tax computations, and VAT returns. 

  • Ensure compliance with Maltese VAT legislation, corporate tax requirements, and filing deadlines. 

  • Liaise with auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory bodies as required. 

  • Supervise, guide, and review the work of junior accountants, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines. 

  • Manage multiple client engagements effectively, maintaining the highest quality of service. 

  • Assist clients with accounting queries, payroll coordination, and other finance-related matters. 

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies in financial reporting and client services. 

 

Qualifications & Skills 

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CPA, or equivalent). 

  • At least 2–3 years’ post-qualification experience, preferably within an accountancy or professional services firm. 

  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and GAPSME reporting standards. 

  • Solid understanding of Maltese VAT, corporate taxation, and compliance frameworks. 

  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills; capable of managing multiple client portfolios simultaneously. 

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy. 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to build strong client relationships. 

  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of cloud-based accounting systems is an asset.
